It’s all about Exeter today and the cathedral is the recognised highlight, massive, gothic and with 1000 years of history in it. Exeter is also about the water and its bustling quayside.

A walk in this part of the city is named after Tommy Cooper who grew up here.

Moretonhampstead Motor Museum is an eccentric, eclectic gem (closed Fridays).
Time permitting I’d like to take an alpaca for a walk at Powderham Castle.

7am Sidmouth

9.30am drinks stop Clyst St Mary
10.30 – 11.30am Exeter Cathedral and Quay (mile 14)

12noon Mile 16, A30, leaving Exeter, pick up and drive to Powderham Castle.

12.30 Powderham Castle tour with alpacas if available

3pm Mile 16, A30  to Moretonhampstead

5.30 Moretonhampstead (27miles)
