Journey journal
Back at Copmanthorpe and a good village was immensely impoved by the countenance of Shaid Hussein, who was set join me for the day. I met Shaid doing the 10 in 10. I had to be on my toes for one reason for most of the day, Shaid is a source of with – and wisdom. I loved spending the day with him.
We ran to Tadcaster where it was too early for a pint of either John or Samuel Smith’s.
Then at Bramham I was able to admire the village whilst reliving tales of derrijng-do from the Endure 24 running event that us held there.
After that we visited Headingly, meeting Fergus before finding the tear-jerking tributes to Leeds Rhino Rob Burrow who died of MND last month. In 2023 I ran the Leeds marathon as a fundraising pineapple for MND and it was such a moving occasion – exemplified by Kevin Sinfield cradling Rob to carry him over the finish. line.
Next I was wowed by the massive ruin, Kirkstall Abbey, before heading over the hills to Pudsey, to see Link Communication.
After that there was a little strip of under development’ green before we entered Bradford, joined Louise and trundled to the finish for an emotional arrival with Brathay.
Just before getting in the car we were intercepoted by the cathedral team and asked to meet Canon Ned, who was very nice to talk to.
‘Where I live’
Louise Cantley, Fergus Straiton, the Brathay Trust team at Bradford and Canon Ned all fulfilled this brief. Louise, a 10 in 10 marathoner from the class of 2022 ran us into Bradford, Fergus, son of Chippenham Harrier John found us at lunch in Headingly and set a quiz question. The Brathay team gave us a huge welcome and we stopped by for tea. Canon Ned had set out watchers for us in the cathedral grounds. He also set a quiz question.
Quiz
Fergus for Leeds – “True or False: Sheep used to graze on the roof of the Temple Works?”
Canon Ned for Bradford – “In what year was the Battle of the Steeple”? [Clue: Bradford Cathedral came under canonball fire when occupied by Royalists in the English Civil War.]
Fuel
Hummus from Ramona’s – a roadshow van put on for us by Link Communication. It was really tasty. Its very versatile – you could use it as spread as well as dip.

Shopkeeping
Trinity Leeds is the go to shopping centre. I really like it. It has a quality visitor experience for shopping and houses and excellent Everyman Cinema. It opened on 21 March 2013, with over 130,000 recorded visitors on opening day. We’re seen some very successful promotions hosted there entered in my Field Marketing and Brand Experience Awards.
Media
BBC Radio Leeds found time for me for an excellent chat with Rich on what must have been a busy newsday. We talked about Brathay and my sponsor Link Communication.
Friends old and new
Joel Kaufman joined us on Facetime from Magazine London’s Barcode festival whilst we were hosted by Ali at their Leeds HQ. He and I go back many years. It was also good to see several of Team Brathay again, and meet a few new.
I enjoyed meeting 10 in 10 er Louise Cantlay and Fergus Straiton. Canon Ned seemed fun too, he was very busy.
Heroes
The Team at Brathay Trust, and Shaid who ran all day with me.

Events and Festivals
Wimbledon continued as Norrie beat Draper and Andy Murray bowed out in the doubles. And of course there is an election going on. Rachel Reece’s constituency in Leeds was peaceful but politcal intensity was rife in Bradford where there is a stromg pro-Palestine lobby.
The live Link link to the Barcode Festival was a great buzz.
Inspiration
Kevin Sinfield and his kindness.
