Journey journal
Starting at Worksop and after a bit of Worksop Trail, little else to shout about. The Bassetlaw Museum at Retford appealed but was closed. Then there was noting remarkable before Laneham, where lunch was given to us, including ultrarunners Jez and Nick by the kindesss contagion, by David, the publican at The Bee’s Knees. Several locals donated and David Anderson gave me a lovely tribute to the work of the tour, telling me a story about the time when Fish from Marillion had been staying as part of the set up recording some of the songs there. We also spoke with Casey from behind the bar, about some of the challenges young people face.
After that the route is great for a stint until it crosses the Trent.
I found the long uphill haul into Lincoln via the A roads, quite hard. Vicki visited the horses and ponies at Bransby Horses where an enormous number of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules graze – 300 – the 600 acres. She was suckered into buying a jar of banana curd!
Lincoln itself has an atractive city centre that is stately. Otherwise it feels more like a town.
The cathedral is just utterly spectracular.
