Wednesday 28th August
At 20 miles this looks a short day, but it will be far more with the evening hike planned, and the arduous route also summits Catbells.
A swim stop at Rydal Cave, mile 3, is a film location for The Witcher. So, amongst other things the day will celebrate the successful British film and gaming sectors. Rydal is also celebrated by Wordsworth who lived at Rydal Mount.
Today will also be a celebration of the author and fellwalker Alfred Wainwright with a pint of Wainwright’s at the Wainwright pub. Wainwright saw Catbells as a family friendly or first timer fell, and that is why I have chosen it for summitting, as these climbs are often best enjoyed in groups of mixed ability.
