Journey journal
A gloomy day started out with a few miles into Nottingham, with badly maintained footpaths leading to a reroute by road around and not past Gedling Country Path.
On the way around Nottingham I made a little tribute to Nottingham’s finest FM Agency, Logobrand.
Wollaton Hall was a sandwich stop. Its a nice looking National Trust with parkland all in easy access reach from the city centre.
I was then on media duties with Radio Nottingham, in a very enjoyable interview with Vino.
On the way around Nottingham I was able to do a seqinned salute to Nottingham’s sporting stars. I don’t suppose Brian Clough would mind the sequins, but I put them on with Torvill and Dean in mind. The ice dancers have streets named in their honour and Nottingham’s National Ice Rink is on Bolero Square.
Then I bridged the short gap between Nottingham and Derby as the day brightened, running via Ilkeston and then a road run before the lovely Locko Park. At Ilkeston I discovered – as promised – the Trip Advisor fabled Nat West Hole.
Whilst I was footling around the Hole, Vicki was discovering the Museum of Making in Derby, housed at The Old Silk Mill. It is described as the very first factory in the world, and is UNESCO World heritage site.
I found may way into Derby via some suburbs including the gaudiest vapes and alcohol shop I have ever seen, Chad Booze.
Derby Cathedral was in readiness for a ballet about Florence Nightingale. It is a less ancient building and a little adrift of the heart of the city.
Leaving Derby to the South there were quite a few grey streets before a final escape into the canal path and the Cloud Trail – a disused rail link.
That’s where I met Gill Gilinator Watson who lives there and we ran a few miles together. Gill is an adventurer, crossfitter and fell runner, who I met during the Mongol 100. She is unforgettable.
Before Gill left us we met Kel Young a local songwiter, making a music video on the trail. Kel and Gill traded localisms.
‘Where I live’ & Quiz
Gill was my local and so I gave her the quiz question to pose. Gill lives near to Castle Donnington – a noisy place. Apart from cars and aircraft, what other noisy thing can Gill occasionally hear from her house?
Fuel
Vicki tracked down Lincolnshire sausages a day late at Wollaton Hall.
Overnight stay
Aaron Lodge, Leicester, a warm-hearted B&B
Shopkeeping
Gaudy Chad Booze was quite startling. Ilkeston was a very long shopping street with not a whole lot to cheer.
The Natural World
Locko Park looked magnificent. There were quite a few waterfowl.
Media
Radio Nottingham

Heroes
Brian Clough, Torvill and Dean.
Dog of the Day

Inspiration
Has to be Gill. She has the most amazing say yes attitude to a variety of challenges. She always goes for it.
