A Dorset to Devon day that follows an outstandingly beautiful section of our next National Trail on the Tour, The South West Coastal Path (SWCP).
The SWCP has special meaning to me, both as a runner and following my parents love of the Dorset coast.
The principal vilages/towns of note are West Bay, Lyme Regis, Seaton and the halt point for the day, Sidmouth. It is a stretch of the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast. Lyme Regis is the most prolific area for fossil finds and was home to the notable paleontologist Mary Anning. The Undercliff, from Lyme to Seaton was also the home turf of author John Fowles. A famous scene in the film of Fowles’ book, The French Lieutenant’s Woman is shot at Lyme Regis.
There are many great endurance events that use this trail.
