At 20 miles this looks a short day, but it will be far more with the evening hike planned, and the arduous route also summits Catbells.

A swim stop at Rydall Cave, mile 3, is a film location for The Witcher. So, amongst other things the day will celebrate the successful British film and gaming sectors.

Today wil also be a celebration of the author and fellwalker Alfred Wainwright with a pint of Wainwright’s at the Wainwright pub. Wainwright saw Catbells as a family friendly or first timer fell, and that is why I have chosen it for summitting, as these cliembs are often best enjoyed in groups of mixed ability.
