At 20 miles this looks a short day, but it will be far more with the evening hike planned, and the arduous route also summits Catbells.
A swim stop at Rydall Cave, mile 3, is a film location for The Witcher. So, amongst other things the day will celebrate the successful British film and gaming sectors.
Today wil also be a celebration of the author and fellwalker Alfred Wainwright with a pint of Wainwright’s at the Wainwright pub. Wainwright saw Catbells as a family friendly or first timer fell, and that is why I have chosen it for summitting, as these cliembs are often best enjoyed in groups of mixed ability.
Evening hike to Castlerigg Stone Circle, about 30 minutes hike out of Keswick, with the hope of a sunny sundown amongst the evocative Neolithic hill top circle.
